Job Objective:
To perform chemical analysis and quality control testing of raw materials, intermediates, and finished steel products to ensure compliance with plant specifications and industry standards.
- Raw Material Testing
- Chemical analysis of iron ore, limestone, dolomite, coke, coal, ferro alloys, scrap.
- Checking incoming materials to confirm they meet plant specifications.
- Process Sample Analysis
- Testing samples from blast furnace, BOF/LD converter, EAF, ladle furnace.
- Monitoring slag chemistry and metal composition during steelmaking.
- Finished Product Analysis
Determining chemical composition of steel:
- Carbon (C)
- Silicon (Si)
- Manganese (Mn)
- Phosphorus (P)
- Sulphur (S)
- Alloy elements like Cr, Ni, Mo, V.
- Instrument Operation
Operating analytical instruments such as:
- Optical Emission Spectrometer (OES)
- XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence)
- Carbon-Sulphur Analyzer
- UV-Vis Spectrophotometer
- ICP-OES (in some plants)
- Wet Chemical Analysis
Performing classical methods like:
- Titration
- Gravimetric analysis
- Volumetric analysis
- Quality Documentation
- Recording results in LIMS / lab registers / QC reports.
- Preparing test certificates and analysis reports.
- Safety & Compliance
- Following lab safety rules, PPE usage, chemical handling protocols.
- Ensuring compliance with ISO 9001 / ISO 17025 lab standards.
- Knowledge of analytical chemistry
- Understanding of steel metallurgy basics
- Instrument handling
- Data interpretation
- Laboratory safety practices
B.Sc / M.Sc Chemistry
Experience in metallurgical or steel plant lab preferred
